Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina
Jolie Voight) is an American actress and director most well-known for her
sexual edginess, sex appeal and her humanitarian work. Jolie was awarded an
Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl,
Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her
childhood in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She attended
the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years. She was then
accepted into Beverly Hills High School. Later, she studied acting at New York
University. Jolie was also an actor in theatre productions. She also was a
model and featured in music videos. Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller (1996 divorced
1999). It was not a huge success, and neither were other films. Jolie as the
role of the Alabama governor's wife who is segregationist attracted a lot of
attention in 1997. Later, she won the Golden Globe Award. In the following
year, she played the role of a model suffering from addiction issues in the HBO
film Gia which brought her numerous awards as well as an Golden Globe and a
Screen Actors Guild Award. She starred with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999.
In the next year, she got married to Thornton (divorced in 2003). In Gone in
Sixty Seconds ((2000)), she played Nicole Cage's girlfriend. Later, she
switched to an accent that resembled a British accent and learned street
fighting and kickboxing to play the titles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and
Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). She played Alexander's
mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander in 2004 and also starred with Jude Law and
Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow The World of Tomorrow, a
thriller about science fiction set in 1930s New York City. Both films failed at
box office, but Jolie did well with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She was a
housewife, pretending to be an assassin. While working on the film she met Brad
Pitt who became her partner.
