Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was conceived in
Pittman Center on January 19 1946. She was raised in Sevierville to Avie Lee
Parton (a housewife) and Robert Lee Parton (a tobacco farmer). At 12, she was
being telecast on Knoxville TV and at 13, she had already begun recording on an
obscure label and performing at the Grand Ole Opry. After finishing high school
in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to launch her country-singing career. Carl
Dean, a asphalt-paving business owner, was her first lover. They were married
on May 30, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and asked her to be a guest on
The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show for seven years. The
duets that they recorded became popular and she was invited to perform with him
at the Grand Ole Opry. When her smash hit "Joshua" hit #1 in 1970,
her fame was a lot more popular than his, and she began to go on her own but

artist. Dolly was an extremely well-known artist and singer. Dolly was awarded
numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70, 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and

mid-1970s saw her becoming a regular on TV. she was often appearing in TV specials
and talk shows, and before getting her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her

where she received an Oscar nomination for the song's title track, as well as
